I was saddened to hear of the passing of actor Ed Asner on August 29. The legendary performer, who was known for so many memorable roles such as in The Mary Tyler Moore Show and the Pixar movie Up, had special meaning for me as an arts journalist.
I had the privilege of meeting him in person twice, once at the Garden State Film Festival in 2014 and the second time at the Adrienne Arsht Center in Miami in 2018 for his performance in The Soap Myth. I was able to interview him for The Miami New Times for his role in the poignant play that honored International Holocaust Remembrance Day.
Rest in peace, Ed Asner. Thanks for your legacy and memories.
